Bekko
Bekko (BECK-oh) means “tortoiseshell,” and refers to koi with a white, red, or yellow base topped with black markings. While visually similar to Utsurimono, Bekko are not black-based. Instead, the sumi markings appear only on the back and upper body of the koi.
The three primary types are Shiro Bekko (white base), Aka Bekko (red base), and Ki Bekko (yellow base). The black markings are usually random, stepping stones along the dorsal.

What to Look For
Search for clean, even base color and well-spaced black markings that are sharp-edged and inky. There should be no black on the head—this distinguishes Bekko from Utsuri. Simplicity, balance, and clarity define a quality Bekko.
